End of Olin…

Posted in Uncategorized by Ellen - Mar 24, 2010

And I hate when things are over – When so much is left undone – Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Deep Blue Something It just hit me how close to the end of Olin I am. When I was a freshman, I promised myself that I’d stop being involved after I graduated, because I was so offended [...]

CTIA Keynotes!

Posted in Uncategorized by Ellen -

I thought I would distill my notes from the keynotes at CTIA this morning, in case anyone was curious. Applications are key now- 1,167 million apps downloaded last year: there needs to be a simpler app distribution plan, and potentially apps in medium-phones (not smart phones). We’re at an inflection point in the future of [...]

Las Vegas

Posted in Uncategorized by Ellen -

I’m in Las Vegas for CTIA Wireless. CTIA Wireless is cool… Las Vegas is… awkward? It’s supposed to be one of the most exciting, happy places on earth, but to me it feels much more like Disney world gone wrong. I don’t like gambling. The people sitting around gambling strike me as… sad. And you [...]

Texas!

Posted in Uncategorized by Ellen - Mar 20, 2010

I was talking to Alyshia last night, and she pointed out that everything I do in Texas is like the song.  So, here are the lyrics, and go listen to the song (I bolded the things I’ve done): Ohio {Come Back To Texas} by Bowling for Soup She said she needed a break A little [...]

Rodeo

Posted in Uncategorized by Ellen -

Texas is… different. There are things I love, and things I hate. One of the ones I love? Rodeos and indoor fireworks. (The prayer before the rodeo started was a little weird). *update* apparently many people aren’t familiar with rodeos. Rodeos including calf roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, bucking horses bareback, bucking horses with saddles, [...]

NASA Tour!

Posted in Uncategorized by Ellen -

One of the few places worth checking in on foursquare- ISS Mission Control! The best part of NASA was the 40′ deep pool. It’d actually be really fun to dive support here for a while. As you’ve probably figured out by now, Fiona took me on a tour of NASA today. It was interesting how [...]

Name-Changing

Posted in Uncategorized by Ellen - Mar 19, 2010

Note: I’ve been intending to write something on this for quite a while, as I have a hard time expressing my thoughts clearly during a verbal conversation.  This could be written more formally or with greater detail/more evidence, but I mostly wanted to express my opinion. People frequently ask me about my opinion of women [...]

Battledecks

Posted in Uncategorized by Ellen - Mar 18, 2010

One of the talks I was excited for at SXSW was Battledecks. The premise is that presenters get up and present on 10 slides they’ve never seen before for five minutes. End result? I was actually rather disappointed. While the slides were hard to cope with, and referenced a lot of pop culture, I felt [...]

Go to a film festival (#63)

Posted in Uncategorized by Ellen - Mar 17, 2010

I’ve been to both part of a Film Festival in San Francisco (not that I remember the name) and also to SXSW Film.  From going to Film Festivals, I’ve learned that they’re more fun with friends. Film critics don’t seem like the most talkative bunch if they don’t already know you.

I’ve learned that one of the keys to keeping a plant alive is just to pick an easy plant.  I graduated from six months of my Happy Bamboo recently (sept-march). I told Alyshia and Greg to get me a plant, and they picked out one that was easy to take care of. It’s doing well, [...]
